Anthony Dominick Benedetto, known by his stage name Tony Bennett, is an American singer by the standards of traditional pop, big band, show tunes and jazz. He is also an artist, having created works under his birth name and is on permanent display to the public in numerous installations. He is the founder of the Frank Sinatra School of the Arts in Astoria, Queens, New York. Born and raised in Astoria and Pyrites, New York to an Italian-American family, Bennett began singing at an early age. He fought at the end of World War II as a US Army infantryman in the European Theater. He then developed his singing technique, signed to Columbia Records and got his first hit song "Because of You" in 1951. Some big hits like "Rags to Riches" "followed suit in early 1953. Then he improved his approach.Includes jazz music. He reached the pinnacle of art in the late 1950s with albums such as The Beat of My Heart and Basie Swings, Bennett Sings.
